About Wan 3.0
Wan is the video model family from Alibaba’s Tongyi Lab. Version 3.0 entered public beta on August 6, 2026 and launched on August 24, replacing Wan 2.7. Alibaba’s headline changes:
- Longer generations. Up to 30 seconds per take on Alibaba’s platform, twice the previous limit.
- Stories with sound. Multi-shot sequences with dialogue, background music and effects created alongside the picture.
- More kinds of input. Text, images, video, audio and, for the first time, a document or web page to turn into a video.
- Partial redo. On Alibaba’s platform you can regenerate part of a clip instead of starting over.
The version we offer covers text to video and image to video in 5 or 10-second clips at three resolutions, which suits most social, product and mood pieces. Its strength is calm, fluid movement: water, fabric, drifting particles and slow camera glides look natural, which makes it a favorite for ambient loops and atmospheric B-roll.
What Wan 3.0 is best for
- Ambient loops for streams, websites and relaxation channels: rain, waves, fireplaces and drifting clouds.
- Product B-roll such as a slow orbit around a bottle or steam rising from a cup, in any of five frame shapes.
- Travel and nature moods where light and gentle movement matter more than action.
- Animated photos: give a landscape or portrait subtle life with image to video.

Is Wan 3.0 open source?
This comes up often because earlier Wan releases were. Alibaba published open weights for Wan 2.1 and Wan 2.2, the latter under the Apache-2.0 license, and they remain popular for running locally. Wan 3.0 is different: as of October 2026 there are no Wan 3.0 weights on the official GitHub or Hugging Face accounts, so it is only available as a hosted model. If you need something you can run on your own GPU, Wan 2.2 is still the open choice; if you want Wan 3.0 quality without managing hardware, a hosted service like this one is the way in.
Tips for Wan 3.0 prompts
- Describe motion as a pace. “Drifting slowly”, “gently swaying”, “a smooth glide” play to Wan’s strength.
- Choose the frame first. Pick 9:16, 1:1 or 4:3 before writing, then compose the subject for that shape.
- Light sets the mood. Dawn, neon, candlelight and overcast skies change the result more than adjectives do.
- Keep text out of the shot. Alibaba notes that on-screen writing is not reliable yet; add captions afterwards.
Wan 3.0 compared with the alternatives
Wan 3.0 sits in the middle of our range on price and gives you the most framing options plus 1080p. Veo 3.1 Lite is cheaper for short clips with speech, Kling 3.0 Turbo handles fast action better, and Seedance 2.5 is the premium pick for multi-shot storytelling. See them all on theAI video generator page, or read the Seedance 2.5 guide if your scene needs several cuts.
