What Veo 3.1 is good at
Veo 3.1 is Google DeepMind’s video model, released in October 2025 for the Gemini app, Flow and Google’s developer platforms. Its headline feature is sound: the model writes the audio track at the same time as the picture, so footsteps land on the beat of the walk and a line of dialogue moves the speaker’s lips. On top of that it brings:
- Realistic, steady footage. Lighting, reflections and skin look natural, and the camera holds still or moves smoothly when asked.
- Strong prompt following. It respects the order of actions, the camera you name and details like clothing colors.
- Vertical and wide formats. 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, 16:9 for YouTube and presentations.
- Image to video. Upload a still and Veo animates it while keeping the composition you chose.
Veo 3.1 Lite or Veo 3.1 Fast?
Google sells Veo 3.1 in tiers, and we offer the two that make sense for everyday work. Lite arrived in March 2026 as the low-cost option: Google prices it at under half of Fast, and it keeps native sound and the same 4, 6 or 8-second lengths. It is our default and the cheapest way to get a video with audio on this site. Fast is the higher-fidelity model: finer texture, cleaner hands and faces, and more convincing speech, which matters for close-ups, product shots and anything with a person talking to camera.
A sensible routine is to find the right prompt on Lite, then render the keeper on Fast. Both run text to video and image to video in 720p or 1080p.
Examples made with Veo 3.1 Lite
Both clips were generated on this site with the prompts shown. The café scene has the model’s own audio; the street scene was rendered silent.
Veo 3.1 Lite · 4s · 720p · with sound · 60 credits
“A barista pours latte art in a sunny cafe, close-up, shallow depth of field, gentle cafe chatter and clinking cups”
Veo 3.1 Lite · 4s · 720p · silent
“A woman with a transparent umbrella walks through a neon-lit Tokyo street in the rain, reflections on wet pavement, cinematic”

How to get a free Veo 3.1 video
People search for “Veo 3.1 free unlimited” a lot. Nobody can honestly offer that: each second of Veo costs real compute. What we can offer is a free start:
- Sign in with Google; new accounts get 90 credits once.
- Keep Veo 3.1 Lite selected, choose 4 or 6 seconds at 720p and leave sound on.
- Generate, then download the MP4 or find it later in My videos.
The 90 credits cover a 6-second Lite clip with sound (90 credits), so your first Veo video costs nothing.
Prompting Veo 3.1 for sound and dialogue
Because the audio comes from the prompt too, it pays to write for the ear as well as the eye:
- Quote the lines. Write who speaks and put the words in quotes; keep it to one short sentence per speaker in 8 seconds.
- Name the sounds. “Rain on a tin roof”, “distant traffic”, “a crowd cheering” — specific beats generic.
- Ask for silence when you want it. Add “no music” or “no dialogue” to keep the track clean.
- One camera move per clip. A slow push-in or a pan reads better than several moves squeezed into a few seconds.
- For image to video, describe the motion and the sound only; the photo already sets the look.
Veo 3.1 compared with other models
Veo 3.1 Lite is the best value for single-shot clips with audio. For stories that cut between shots in one generation, Seedance 2.0 handles “then cut to” better; Kling 3.0 Turbo is stronger on fast action; Wan 3.0 offers more aspect ratios. Google has also moved on: its newer video work now ships as Gemini Omni Flash, while Veo 3.1 remains the version available through the API we use. All models share one credit balance, so try the same prompt on two and keep the better take — start from the AI video generator or the Seedance 2.0 guide.
Veo 3.1 FAQ
Is Veo 3.1 free?
Your first clip here is. New accounts that sign in with Google get 90 credits, and a 4-second Veo 3.1 Lite clip with sound costs 60, so it is on us. After that you pay per clip from a credit pack, with no subscription required. Google also includes Veo in some paid Google AI plans.
What is the difference between Veo 3.1 Lite and Veo 3.1 Fast?
Lite is Google’s budget tier: same clip lengths and native sound at less than half the price of Fast. Fast renders finer detail, steadier faces and better dialogue. An 8-second 720p clip with sound costs 120 credits on Lite and 360 on Fast.
How long can a Veo 3.1 video be?
Each generation is 4, 6 or 8 seconds. For a longer piece, make several clips and join them, or use Director, which plans the shots, renders them and stitches the final cut for you.
Does Veo 3.1 make sound?
Yes. Ambience, sound effects, music and short spoken lines are generated together with the picture. You can switch sound off to save money: silent Lite clips cost about 40% less.
Do Veo 3.1 videos have a watermark?
There is no visible logo on your download. Google embeds SynthID, an invisible watermark, in every Veo video so tools can recognize it as AI-generated. Label AI content when you post it.
