What changed in Seedance 2.5
ByteDance’s Seed team previewed Seedance 2.5 in June 2026 and released it on July 31 in the Jimeng and Doubao apps, with the developer API following a week later. Version 2.0 had already made multi-shot clips with native audio popular; 2.5 pushes in three directions:
- Longer takes. ByteDance’s own apps generate up to 30 seconds in one go, double the 2.0 limit, and can extend a clip in rounds.
- Far more references. Up to 30 images plus video and audio clips can guide a single generation, which helps keep a character or product consistent.
- Editing tools. Changes at a given timestamp, green-screen style background swaps and new camera angles on existing footage.
Through the hosted API we use, you get the core of it: text to video and image to video, 5 or 10 seconds, 480p or 720p, six aspect ratios for text prompts, and sound you can switch on or off at no extra cost.
A Seedance 2.5 example
This clip came from the generator above in one try. Note the cut from the staircase to the lamp — the model decided the edit from the words “then a cut to” — and the storm sounds that came with it.
Seedance 2.5 · 5s · 480p · with sound · 331 credits
“Cinematic two-shot sequence: a lighthouse keeper climbs a spiral staircase by lantern light during a storm, then a cut to the great lamp flaring to life over crashing waves. Thunder, rain and creaking wood.”
Seedance 2.5 price
ByteDance prices Seedance by how much video it renders, so cost scales with resolution and length; sound is free. Here is every option, in credits and at the Starter pack rate:
| Seedance 2.5 | ||
|---|---|---|
| Clip | Credits | ≈ Starter price |
| 5s · 480p | 331 | $2.98 |
| 10s · 480p | 662 | $5.96 |
| 5s · 720p | 710 | $6.39 |
| 10s · 720p | 1419 | $12.77 |
A 5-second 480p clip costs 331 credits ($3.30); the same clip at 720p is 710 credits. That makes 2.5 about 1.6 times the price of Seedance 2.0 at 480p, so it pays to settle the prompt on a cheaper model first. Failed renders are refunded automatically.
Seedance 2.5 or Seedance 2.0?
Use Seedance 2.5 for the final version of anything with several shots, intricate camera moves or a hero character who appears in every shot. It holds faces, outfits and props together across cuts more reliably, and lighting changes between shots look intentional.
Stay on Seedance 2.0 (or its Mini version) while you are still exploring. Many single-shot prompts look nearly the same on both, and 2.0 also offers 1080p. Our Seedance 2.0 guide covers that model and its free first clip in detail.
Best uses for Seedance 2.5
- Short film beats and trailers: an establishing shot, a reaction and a reveal in a single 10-second clip.
- Ads with a hero product that has to look identical in the close-up and the wide shot.
- Music video sequences where the cut points and the ambience matter as much as the picture.
- Pitch storyboards that show a client how a scene will flow before anything is filmed.
For a single static shot, a talking head or a quick meme, the premium is hard to justify; pick it when the edit inside the clip is the point.
Writing prompts for Seedance 2.5
- Script the shots. Number them or join them with “then cut to”; two or three shots suit 5 seconds, up to five suit 10.
- Give each shot a size. Extreme close-up, medium shot, wide establishing shot — the edit reads better when sizes change.
- Anchor the subject. Repeat the key traits (“the keeper in the yellow raincoat”) so the character survives every cut.
- Close with the soundscape. List weather, room tone and effects; add “no music” if you plan to score it yourself.
- Expect limits. ByteDance says complex physics and scenes with several people interacting still need work, so keep crowds simple.
How Seedance 2.5 fits with other models
It is the premium choice on SiVideoGen. Veo 3.1 Lite is far cheaper for single shots with sound, Kling 3.0 Turbo is the pick for fast action, and Wan 3.0 offers 1080p at a mid-range price. Every model shares one balance, so draft wherever it is cheapest and spend on 2.5 only for the take you will publish. Start from the AI video generator to compare them side by side.
Seedance 2.5 FAQ
Is Seedance 2.5 free?
Not on this site. It is the most expensive model we run: 331 credits for 5 seconds at 480p, more than the 90 free credits new accounts receive. Those credits do cover a Seedance 2.0 Mini clip with sound (87), a good way to learn the Seedance prompt style first. ByteDance’s own Dreamina app also hands out daily free credits.
When was Seedance 2.5 released?
ByteDance previewed it in June 2026, released it in its Jimeng and Doubao apps on July 31, 2026, and opened the developer API on August 7. We run it through that API via fal.ai.
What is new in Seedance 2.5 compared with 2.0?
Longer single takes (up to 30 seconds in ByteDance’s apps), many more reference images, video and audio clips, editing by timestamp and background replacement. Sound and picture are still generated together.
Why are clips here only 5 or 10 seconds?
Those are the lengths the hosted API we use offers today, at 480p or 720p. For a longer story, render several clips or let Director plan the shots and stitch them into one video.
Can I start from my own image?
Yes. Choose Image to video and upload a picture; the clip takes the shape of your image. ByteDance’s own apps have restricted real people’s faces as references, so illustrations, products and scenes are the safest starting points.
Is Seedance 2.5 worth the price over 2.0?
For a final render with several shots, complex camera work or a character who must stay consistent, often yes. For drafts and simple single shots, Seedance 2.0 gives similar results for about 61% of the cost.
